So I purchased both the first and second version of this speaker. When I say first and second, I don’t mean the robot voice version. I’m speaking of the ones that costs $28 and $35, respectively. I wish I had known there was a second one when I purchased the first one. That small but significant detail is something that I missed until later when I looked at this page again. So my curiosity got the best of me and I purchased the second one and WOW. Although the first one is an amazing speaker that’s pretty dang loud and has a good amount of bass, I would definitely rather invest $7 and pay for MagicBoxII.

The first one is light, very compatible, comes in various colors, the bass is there, the highs are satisfactory, and it’s loud enough where you’re not on full blast most of the time. In other words it’s a great speaker that will not disappoint.

The second is the same size, heavier (which probably means it has a bigger magnet), it only comes in black, the highs are great, the mids are definitely more apparent, and as a bass junkie, I love the amount of bass this emits. I’ve played around with the $200 Bose one that has substantial weight and the bass is on-point. So I have pretty high standards for bluetooth speakers. But for less than $40, this is obviously a much better purchase.

Invest in the second one. It’s only $7 more. That’s almost an hour of work at a minimum wage job for a much better speaker.

Sweet mother Mary and Joseph! This thing just flat gets with the program! I’m not a professional sound engineer but I do enjoy nice speakers. I have a whole litany of home theater equipment, car audio, and headphones. I have heard a few Bluetooth speakers in my day. Most are pretty capable speakers in terms of volume. The sound quality is hit and miss. I was looking for a deal on Black Friday as I wanted to replace the Bluetooth speaker I had (a very cheap black friday deal from several years ago). I did some research and settled on the Magic Box II. Everyone was raving about it and I figured for the money it was at least worth a shot.

I unboxed it and was pleasantly surprised with the heft of it and surprised how small it was. It seems too small, and I thought ok well it feels good but it isn’t very big. My expectations were unclear. Fired it up and paired it to my phone. I was listening to Pitbull last so that is what it cued up. I was immediately slack jawed at the amount of noise it put out, and that was whatever the default setting was. I thought well heck this thing must be turned all the way up (which would have still been impressive). Wrong she had more to give! LOUD! LOUD! LOUD! This was not in a small room either. This was in the living room which is two stories straight up.

OK so it is loud. You get that. How is the sound quality? Better than fair, but not the best I have ever heard by any stretch of the imagination. The highs are ok which most of these little speakers seem to do pretty well with. The mids are very nice, and if I had to point to one area where it shines it would be the mids. The bass is present (which is incredible considering how small it is) but it is muddy, however it is trying so dang hard that it vibrates itself while sitting on the counter. While it certainly isn’t replacing any of my subs it is MORE than capable of filling the garage or my backyard by the pool with plenty of volume and enough sound quality to not complain about it. It gets a little distorted at high volume but nothing horrible. I honestly don’t ever see why you would need to turn it up loud enough that it was distorting, but to each their own.

The whole unit has a quality feel too it, from its heft and the nice positive engagement of the buttons when pressed. I can’t imagine how they have put this together and are able to sell them so cheaply. It has a nice simple clean look to it.

I wish the charge/Bluetooth indicator light was a little easier to see through the grill but no big deal.

I haven’t had it long enough to comment on battery life, but if this thing were to only give me 2 hours at a time I couldn’t be mad at it because of the volume it can produce.

For the money… I don’t see how you can go wrong with this one. Are there better alternatives at a higher price point… I think there are. Can this thing be beat for the size and cost? I seriously doubt it.

Great Little Speaker With Big Sound, September 26, 2015

A speaker that puts out good sound makes listening so much more enjoyable! I received the DKnight Magicbox II Bluetooth Speaker to review and among it’s many features, it kicks out some awesome audio. I love music. Love listening to it all the time. I find it can help me focus and makes me happy. What doesn’t make me happy is when the music sounds bad, is distorted, cuts in and out or is full of fuzzy static. This speaker puts out crisp, clear audio with a great even sound to it. Whether up loud or down lower, the music sounds great. I can carry it about 33 feet away from my tablet if I need to go into the other room or while moving around outside. It also has great clear sound when using for phone calls.
Buttons on the top of the speaker control everything. You can increase or decrease the volume, skip forward to the next song or skip back to replay the previous song, pause and play and answer or end a phone call. I like that the volume buttons are separate from the skip buttons because then I don’t have to remember whether I need to do a long press or a short one for the function I want.
The housing has a rubberized covering that makes it easy to hang onto and also provides a non-slip hold. It’s heavy duty and rugged for using it inside or out. Except in water. Don’t let it swim.
A great accessory that is included with the speaker is the Bass Pad. If you have used a speaker with a really rocking song, you have watched it bounce around and possibly even walk right off a table or desk. This pad provides a surface to prevent that from happening! It holds the speaker in place so you can rock out without your speaker leaping over the edge.
The speaker connected to my tablet on the first try without any problems and links up great everytime I turn it on. The charging cable is a flat cable that resists tangling and you also get an audio cable for using the speaker with you computer, laptop, mp3 player or any device that doesn’t have bluetooth capabilities.
I like the sound of this speaker and have been carrying it in my bag, listening to music every chance I get. I received the black one, but you can also get it in red and black, blue and black and gray.
